What Can I Expect for the Timeline of a Mommy Makeover?

Making the decision to undergo a Mommy Makeover can be equal parts exciting and overwhelming. This popular combination of procedures aims to restore your body after the physical changes brought on by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. The average Mommy Makeover timeline involves a series of steps, including initial consultations, preparation, surgery, recovery, and follow-up care. Keep reading to learn more about the typical stages of a Mommy Makeover.

Pre-Operative Consultation

A Mommy Makeover starts with an initial consultation, where you will discuss your concerns with our board-certified plastic surgeon and have the opportunity to ask questions about the treatment process. During this stage, Dr. McCormack or Dr. Joslyn will review your medical history and assess your goals to formulate the best possible Mommy Makeover plan to bring your desired contours to fruition. VECTRA® 3D imaging technology can also be used to provide a visualization of the potential results of your procedure based on the treatments chosen. If breast augmentation is being performed, you will also be able to “try on” different implant sizes to see how each option will affect your silhouette.

Surgical Process

Once your Mommy Makeover plan is finalized, our plastic surgeons will give you insight into how/when your selected procedures will be performed. A Mommy Makeover may take place all at once or in separate stages depending on each patient’s needs. Many procedures can be completed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, but combining treatments may require an overnight stay in some cases. Rest assured that our team will let you know exactly what you can expect with regard to the timeline of your Mommy Makeover.

Recovery

The recovery timeline for each patient varies according to the types of procedures performed during your Mommy Makeover. For example, recovering from a tummy tuck and breast surgery will require more downtime when compared to healing from liposuction. In most cases, it takes approximately two weeks to recover before patients continue their normal daily routines. We recommend arranging for help around the house, meal planning, and childcare assistance, if necessary, prior to your surgery to allow yourself plenty of time to rest during the recovery period.

Dr. Tiffany McCormack and Dr. Nichole Joslyn take great care to make sure every Mommy Makeover patient understands the various steps of their surgical plan before the start of any treatment. Schedule a consultation with our team to discuss the best techniques to achieve your goals, or to learn more about our treatment options.
