Will I Have Bruising After BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections?
For decades, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have allowed men and women to look as young as they feel without surgery or recovery time. This treatment is known for being a relatively low-maintenance and convenient way to look more youthful, but that doesn’t mean minor reactions aren’t possible after injections. Redness, mild swelling, tenderness, and bruising are the most common after-effects, but not every patient experiences bruising. This typically depends on many factors, such as:
- The injection site
- The experience and technique of your injector
- Your unique skin type
For more delicate areas, such as around the eye contours, bruising may be more likely to occur. In any case, any bruising should resolve naturally within a few days to one week. In order to minimize the likelihood of bruising, we typically advise avoiding blood-thinning medications (such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and fish oil) for a few days before your injections. After treatment, applying a cold compress can help reduce swelling and potential bruising. Staying away from vigorous or strenuous exercise for a few days can also help avoid noticeable bruising.
As a purified form of botulinum toxin, BOTOX® Cosmetic can soften wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that commonly form expression lines, such as crow’s feet, creases along the brow, and frown lines (“eleven wrinkles”). While only capable of temporary results, BOTOX® Cosmetic can still provide a more refreshed, carefree, and energetic look when treatment is performed by a qualified injector.
